Evaluating business innovation is an important indicator of economic activity

HRF Centre has been monitoring business innovation in the Hunter as part of its regional research program since 2009. Using our Hunter Pulse business surveys we have collected data from 300 regional businesses annually since 2009.

Our Hunter time series confirms that there is a relationship between innovation and improved performance (self-reported). It also shows that the benefits for firms who innovate have been growing over time.

This long-term project focusses on:

  • What motivates local businesses to innovate
  • Extent of inventiveness
  • Factors motivating the introduction of new products and services
  • Design and development of new products and services

Our latest business innovation research was conducted in November 2018. The key findings were reported at our Economic Breakfast on 16 May as part of the annual Hunter Innovation Festival.
